These Optimist lifebuoys are made of polyurethane-coated nylon. They are about half as light and significantly stronger than PVC or PVC-coated nylon lifebuoys. Some lifebuoys are equipped with a twist-lock valve. This valve is attached to a tube. It allows the lifebuoy to inflate and deflate quickly and easily. The 48-liter lifebuoys are slightly heavier than the 43-liter ones, but after a capsize, the volume of water in the boat is significantly less.
